What is art?

Who cares!

Cary rants about art in the middle of our big hit wonder, “A Shit Called Art”. There’s so much to talk about. Art can be anything! And it’s best when it smells really bad, brown and gooey. Thus, when artistic be artsy fartsy. I mean if you really have to make art, be artistic and try to be some gay ass struggling artist, you might as well have fun at it. Laugh! Be marry! Have a bowl of jelly! Sing songs of farts. Paste poo poo on the walls. Put it in a frame and call it art! We all can be artsy fartsy together! Yeah, Art!

Now, how does art apply to punk. Well, punk is a genre or style of music. Music is typically considered art. Actually, musicology defines music into three sections, Art, Folk and Pop. Art being music you learn in a school. Folk being music your community taught you. Pop being popular music you know about because you bought it. So, punk probably isn’t art music because we all learn about it, or find out about it, by buying a CD, or paying the door charge to see some artsy fartsy punk band perform, or listening to all those damn advertisements when waiting to hear the new hit song by The Offspring on KROQ. No one goes to art school to learn how to be punk or learn what punk is or how to dress punk or whatever. Punk is not art music, but can it be artsy fartsy?

Our goal for Punk As A Doornail is to be really artsy fartsy. The world needs a real artsy fartsy punk band. The children of the world need an artsy fartsy punk band and we, Punk As A Doornail, have come to deliver, just like the Sex Pistols have cum for you children! But, aye, the challenge of it all.
The way we do it is by starting out as an art project. Then mix in the band batter to become an art band and finally sprinkle some punk toppings to taste! Thus, Punk As A Doornail is art. Punk As A Doornail is an art band. Punk As A Doornail is a artsy fartsy punk band.

I’m curious of the origin of the term artsy fartsy. We didn’t come up with it, but I wonder who did. Artsy Farsty is a delightful term.
